Manchester United have been linked to one of Europe’s emerging defenders but is he someone they need.

Manchester United are being linked to players to improve their team, despite seeing little improvement after bringing in £600 million worth of signing under Erik ten Hag.

The Red Devils have no been linked to a move for Gleison Bremer, the Brazilian defender who plays for Juventus. The physically strong defender would enhance Manchester United's defence. His aerial ability is remarkable, and despite being physical, he possesses the ball-playing skills that align with the style of football Ten Hag aims to implement at the club.

Gleison Bremer has drawn comparisons to legendary Brazilian defender Lúcio, who won both the World Cup and the UEFA Champions League.

Signing a fit Bremer would be a good deal, but he is reported to have torn his ACL. He got injured just six minutes into Juventus’ UEFA Champions League match at Leipzig and is expected to be out for at least six months. Thiago Motta will have to perform a miracle to win the Serie A title for the Old Lady, highlighting how important Bremer is to the team.

Under Ten Hag, United's signings have failed to improve the club. Even if Bremer were fit, it wouldn’t be advisable to spend a significant amount on him, considering the manager's track record with the £600 million worth of players he has acquired. Backing him again with another big-money signing would not be a prudent decision.

Rumours suggest that Sir Alex Ferguson has recommended Max Allegri to the club’s owners as a long-term replacement for Ten Hag. If the potential signing of Bremer is related to Allegri's arrival, it could make sense, as the Italian tactician knows the 27-year-old well from their time at Juventus.

Bremer's versatility would be valuable for a coach who switches between a traditional four at the back and a three at the back. He could form a formidable three-man defence with Lisandro Martinez and Matthijs de Ligt, all other factors being equal. Unfortunately, his recent ACL injury means INEOS will be hesitant, as players rarely recover from an anterior cruciate ligament injury without regressing in terms of quality. Even Max Allegri, who knows him well, would likely have some doubts.

United already have key defenders like Luke Shaw and Lisandro Martinez, who are both injury-prone. Adding a player returning from an ACL injury would be a bold decision. It would be wise for the 20-time English champions to look elsewhere for improvements in defence rather than pursuing the injured Gleison Bremer.
