We begin Saturday morning’s Premier League transfer rumour roundup with news of a speculative move from Newcastle United. According to Sky Sports, the Magpies have made contact with Crystal Palace over a potential swoop for defender Marc Guehi.

The England international is in high demand this summer, and fits the profile of a right-sided centre-back that Eddie Howe and his board are looking for in the market. Any prospective transfer fee would be ‘considerable’ given Guehi’s growing reputation, and the fact that he has two years left to run on his contract at Selhurst Park. A price tag of around £60 million has been touted, but if Palace’s demands become too much, Newcastle may have to walk away due to financial regulation pressures.

The 3AM Verdict: If Newcastle could pull this off it would be a fantastic signing. Guehi is a huge talent, and one who has seemed destined for a big money move for quite some time. His showing at Euro 2024 only strengthened that conviction, but it remains to be seen whether the Magpies have enough financial leeway to make it happen.

Gibbs-White not for sale

Elsewhere, Nottingham Forest are reportedly unwilling to cash in on Morgan Gibbs-White this summer. The midfielder impressed immensely last season, and has subsequently garnered plenty of admiration from potential suitors. Arsenal, Aston Villa, Chelsea, and Newcastle are all keen, but according to HITC, Forest have no intention of selling any time soon.

It is understood that Gibbs-White is content at the City Ground and is encouraged by the squad that is being assembled by Nuno Espirito Santo. The 24-year-old is under contract until 2027.

The 3AM Verdict: You can understand Forest’s reluctance to part company with Gibbs-White. The midfielder has developed into a really fine attacking talent in recent seasons, and so much of his side’s best work goes through him. Earlier in the summer, when financial regulations were squeezing Forest a little tighter, they might have been forced into a sale, but now, they look much more secure.

Chelsea want Bobb

And finally, according to GiveMeSport, Chelsea are keen on prising promising winger Oscar Bobb away from Manchester City this summer. The Blues missed out on signing Michael Olise, who opted for a transfer to Bayern Munich, earlier in the window, but are still eager to bring in more attacking options, and have identified the young Norwegian as one potential option.

For his part, however, Bobb is said to be content at the Etihad, and would ideally like to stay and battle for a first team place with the Premier League champions. Manager Pep Guardiola has previously claimed that the 21-year-old is ‘incredible’.

The 3AM Verdict: Deja vu, anybody? It wasn’t so very long ago that Chelsea managed to snatch Cole Palmer away from City, and look how well that turned out for them. That being said, whether Bobb will be as open to the prospect of a move to West London remains to be seen, and at the present moment in time, it feels as if he will be staying put. Things can change, however.
