The latest injury news from Newcastle United as the Magpies prepare to meet Premier League rivals West Ham United.

Newcastle United seem to be gathering momentum as the Premier League season rapidly approaches what many consider to be the ‘crucial Christmas period’.

A Carabao Cup win against Chelsea and taking maximum points from a Premier League double header with Arsenal and Nottingham Forest sent Eddie Howe’s men into the international break in good heart. It would be safe to suggest the Magpies have been further boosted by the performances of several of their players during the break as Sandro Tonali, Alexander Isak and Anthony Gordon all found the net for their countries and young full-back duo Tino Livramento and Lewis Hall both made their senior debuts for England.

However, with the international break now all but over, the focus swiftly returns to their Premier League campaign and next Monday’s home clash with West Ham United. Howe will await news on the fitness of several of his players that have represented their countries over the last week - but he is also hoping for positive updates on a number of Magpies players that have been in the treatment room.

Sven Botman

The former Lille defender suffered a serious knee injury last season and has not appeared since the Magpies were sent out of the FA Cup with a quarter-final defeat against Manchester City. Botman is working hard to return to contention in December - although Howe moved to give a more realistic return date in his pre-match press conference ahead of last week’s win at Nottingham Forest. He said: “We hope Sven can begin light training in the next few weeks. If we see him before the end of the year that would be a bonus. We are probably looking at more like January.” Predicted return date: Late December/Early January (Manchester United away)

Jamaal Lascelles

At a time when it felt as if Eddie Howe could not buy any luck on the injury front, club captain Lascelles suffered a serious knee injury that brought a premature end to his involvement during the second half of last season. The former Nottingham Forest centre-back is said to be targeting a return to contention at the end of January. Speaking last month, he said: “I should be back on the grass soon and jogging in the next few weeks. It'll take me a while to build up from there, but I'm happy to be ticking those boxes, and now it's about getting my boots back on and progressing slowly that way.” Predicted return date: Late January/Early February 2025 (Fulham home)

A hamstring injury in last month’s goalless draw at Everton last month and he has been gradually working his way back towards full fitness. There were some hopes Trippier could have been available for the visit to Nottingham Forest ahead of the international break but next week’s home clash with West Ham United is now a more realistic option. Speaking last month, Howe said: “Kieran has picked up a hamstring problem. It's probably nothing too serious, but it will keep him out for a few weeks.” Predicted return date: Late November (West Ham United home)

Callum Wilson

Wilson found himself in a similar situation as Trippier as there was some hope the England striker could return for the win at Nottingham Forest - but it is now expected the former Bournemouth frontman will return for the home game with West Ham and be available for the first time this season. Howe had already hinted the striker would not return until after the international break in a press conference earlier this month. He said: “There was no real injury but just a feeling in his body that he couldn’t push as hard as he wanted. We’ll see how he is, but probably with the two-week gap, it's best to leave it.” Predicted return date: Late November (West Ham United home)

Dan Burn

The Blyth-born defender is not suffering with an injury but will miss the home game with West Ham United after picking up a fifth yellow card of the season in the win at Nottingham Forest prior to the international break Predicted return date: Late November (Crystal Palace away)
