The groundbreaking Tottenham and West Ham transfer swap deal that could see Spurs finally land key target

Tottenham Hotspur and West Ham United were arguably two of the biggest underachievers in the Premier League last season. Spurs may have won the Europa League, but a 38-game season is often a more telling reflection of where a club is currently at.

Spurs will point to injury issues, but a 17th-placed finish is unacceptable in any circumstances and new manager Thomas Frank will be looking to make whole-sale changes to the side. As for the Hammers, they cannot even blame injuries for their 14th-placed finish, in a campaign during which they often hovered right above the bottom three.

Spurs and West Ham may be traditional London rivals, but they could put their differences aside in a major swap deal which could solve key issues for both clubs. A player has not transferred between the two clubs in 14 years since Scott Parker joined Spurs, so a sensational swap deal would cause a major stir around the Premier League and beyond.

Mohammed Kudus is a major transfer target for Spurs and new manager Frank, with rumours linking him both to the North Londoners and to rivals Chelsea. But the Lilywhites could have an ace up their sleeve as they hone in on a deal for Kudus.

Romanian centre-back Radu Dragusin has been largely used as back-up since signing for former Spurs manager Ange Postecoglou in January 2024, only beginning to earn a run in the side after serious injuries to both Micky van de Ven and Cristian Romero last season. Dragusin has since had to deal with a major injury setback himself, suffering an ACL injury at the end of January which ended his season.

But despite Dragusin’s continued rehab going well as he aims to return to first-team action soon, recent reports from TBR Football state that Spurs are open to selling the 23-year-old this summer, amidst fears that he may not be a good match for Frank’s style of play and could fall down the pecking order when he returns to full fitness. This could open up the perfect opportunity for Spurs to use Dragusin as a sweetener in a deal for Kudus.

This really could be the perfect answer. Dragusin may not necessarily fit in at Spurs, but he could be just what West Ham are looking for. He is a tall, imposing presence at the back, confident in his ability on the ball and a threat in both boxes. Also just 23, he is still young and could challenge for a role in the Hammers back line for years to come.

The deal could also solve a major PSR issue for the east Londoners, who may be forced to sell a big-name star in order to avoid a financial breach. At least this way they will get a player in the door as part of the deal.

For Spurs, the benefits of this swap deal are obvious. The BBC have reported that Frank’s side have seen a £50m bid for top target Kudus rejected, but they may get their man if a player-plus-cash deal involving Dragusin is suggested. This could be a true win-win.
