In the end, Sunday was ultimately a tale of two Deadpools. As dusk settled in and the magic of the FA Cup cast one more bewitching spell, the BBC took it upon themselves to spend half of their coverage of Wrexham’s 3-3 draw against Sheffield United with a camera rigidly trained on Ryan Reynolds. Really, it should have been a feature available via the Red Button: Hollywood-Owner-Cam.

Earlier in the day, however, it was (Liver)pool who came a cropper, tripping over a shoelace of lethargy and impaling themselves on a glinting spike of Brighton’s burgeoning ambition. The Reds are now out of both cup competitions, languish ninth in the Premier League, and face the unenviable task of a Champions League Round of 16 clash against Real Madrid next month. This could very well be a trophyless season for Jurgen Klopp’s men, and it feels as if his squad are entering a period of enforced transition. Or limbo. Potato, tomato, as they say.

Perhaps the clearest indications of the rapidly approaching readjustment Liverpool are coming to terms with are the exits, potential or otherwise, of several Anfield stalwarts. Already, Sadio Mane has left the club for pastures *ahem* neuer with Bayern Munich, and if a fresh report from Defensa Central - surely Jar Jar Binks’ favourite Spanish language news outlet - is to be believed, then Real Madrid could be plotting a summer swoop for Roberto Firmino. The Brazilian with the Day-Glo grin has fallen down the pecking order somewhat on Merseyside, and with his current contract set to expire in the coming months, the European champions could look to capitalise by sealing a free transfer. Martin Lewis would be proud.

Elsewhere, Football Insider claim that West Ham will not stand in the way of Declan Rice leaving the club at the end of the season, with the England international looking increasingly unlikely to sign a new deal in East London. Arsenal, Chelsea, Liverpool, Manchester City, and Manchester United all watch on like seagulls on a windswept pier, waiting for a single chip to hit the ground so they can all pounce in avian gluttony.

And finally, Arsenal will be hoping that Brighton find it in their cold, callous hearts to adopt a similarly liberating stance over Moises Caicedo’s future in the coming days. Sky Sports suggest that a bid of £70 million has been flatly rejected by, well, yet more Seagulls, with Albion holding firm in their desire to keep the Ecuadorian midfielder on the south coast for the time being. How very dare they? It’s almost as if he’s actually under contract until 2025 or something...
