Kylian Mbappe was the hero of the night as France recorded a 2-1 win over Denmark to secure their place in the knockout stages of the World Cup.  There was a time though in the game when France needed their keeper and most experienced man Hugo Lloris to keep them in the contest.

PSG star Mbappe will be talked about for the way he scored the two goals that secured the win, but there was a moment in the game when goalkeeper Lloris proved that he was still one of the best shot stoppers in the world with a point blank save from Tottenham teammate Pierre-Emile Højbjerg.

That was as important as the winning goal from Mbappe as the game was well poised and with Barcelona star Andreas Christensen heading home the equaliser as Mbappe opened the scoring.

Tottenham are in the market looking for a goalkeeper who will be the long-term replacement for Hugo Lloris, but the way he is performing at the highest level means he’s still one who can stick around for a long time to come.

Lloris has always been dependable for club and country and a lot of people in north London at N17 would have been delighted with his special performance out in the desert of Qatar.

France have laid down a marker with that win becoming the first country in the World Cup to reach the knockout stages of the competition with a game to spare. They have done so without striker Karim Benzema and Lucas Hernandez who have been forced out through injury.
