Now there’s a thing, what ever happened to cheque books? Are they still used? Were they ever really used by football clubs in transfer deals? Anyway, we’ve gone off topic.

There is already talk of some big money moves in the Premier League with the likes of Harry Kane, James Maddison and Declan Rice all involved in speculation in recent months. However, not every deal that takes place during the close-season will involve a hefty transfer fee with a whole host of eye-catching names approaching the final month of their current contracts.

That means they will be eligible for a free transfer move this summer, although such agreements usually involve the player receiving a significant signing-on fee and an sizable weekly wage - so suggesting the deal is a free is somewhat misleading. With just weeks to go until the ‘free’ transfer market is swelled, 3AddedMinutes puts together a team of players that will become free agents at the end of June.

Goalkeeper - David de Gea (Manchester United)

De Gea’s future at Old Trafford remains open to question, as does any assessment of his performances this season. The Spanish stopper has received criticism for several mistakes, yet kept more clean sheets than any other goalkeeper in the Premier League. Negotiations over a new contract are ongoing but as it stands, De Gea will be available on a free transfer at the end of next month.

Right back - Matt Doherty (Atletico Madrid)

The Republic of Ireland international made a surprise switch to La Liga in January but has endured a frustrating time in the Spanish capital. Doherty has made just two substitute appearances and seems likely to leave Atleti next month. Despite his underwhelming season, the 31-year-old will still be an attractive option for a number of Premier League clubs this summer.

Left back - Raphael Guerreiro (Borussia Dortmund)

After suffering heartache on the final day of the Bundesliga season after his side narrowly missed out on the title, Portugal international Guerreiro is set to leave Dortmund next month after seven seasons with the club. With top level experience and versatility among his many attributes, the 29-year-old will be in demand if a parting of the ways does come to pass.

Centre back - Evan Ndicka (Eintracht Frankfurt)

A highly-talented defender, Ndicka helped Eintracht Frankfurt to the Europa League Final win over Rangers last season and was also named in the Bundesliga team of the year. His pace and power has attracted Premier League interest, with Newcastle United and Manchester United both reportedly keen to land him on a free transfer this summer.

Centre back - Milan Skriniar (Internazionale)

The Slovakian defender has spent the last five years at Inter Milan and was one of their key players when they won the Scudetto under Antonio Conte. He has been linked with a reunion with Conte at Spurs and there is no doubt that the 27 year old would add immense quality to the heart of any defence. The Slovakian defender has spent the last five years at Inter Milan and was one of their key players when they won the Scudetto under Antonio Conte. Speculation over a move to Ligue 1 champions Paris Saint-Germain continues to dominate the headlines, with the latest talk suggesting the offer of a summer deal could be withdrawn. Skriniar has been a dominant presence at the heart of the Inter defence in recent years and will have no shortage of suitors should his move to the French capital fall through.

Midfielder - N’Golo Kante (Chelsea)

Unquestionably one of the best holding midfielders in Premier League history, Kante has endured a season of frustration after injuries limited his attempts to help Chelsea during an underwhelming campaign. His contract is now entering its final weeks and he would have to prove his fitness to any suitors before a move could be made.

Midfielder - Adrien Rabiot (Juventus)

The France international reportedly has several Premier League clubs battling for his services as his current deal at Juventus approaches its final month. The midfielder is said to open about what lies ahead and there have been suggestions his future could have been decided by the outcome of Juventus’ battle to get into Europe this season.

Midfielder - Ilkay Gundogan (Manchester City)

The midfielder has been integral in City’s successful defence of their Premier League title and scored some key goals during the final weeks of the season. However, as it stands, Gundogan is out of contract next month and will depart the Etihad Stadium at the end of June. Pep Guardiola is believed to be keen to retain his services and there is interest from a number of clubs.

Forward - Wilfried Zaha (Crystal Palace)

A Crystal Palace legend, no doubt about it, but Zaha is set to leave Selhurst Park this summer in what is likely to be the final move of his career. The talented forward has been linked with a number of Premier League clubs and reportedly has interest from around Europe.

Forward - Marcus Thuram (Borussia Monchengladbach)
