For Leicester City, Leeds United and Southampton, three clubs that looked full of promise in the not-so-distant past, the pain is only just getting underway as they prepare for life in the Championship. Big decisions, uncomfortable calls and a large dose of uncertainty lie in wait at all three clubs as they look to shake off the impact of their relegation and kickstart a push to return to the elite of English football.

One key aspect of their summer transfer window will be a number of clubs they have left behind in the Premier League looking to tempt players into remaining in the top tier. For Everton and West Ham United, two clubs looking to move on from underwhelming domestic campaigns, a number of players from Leicester, Leeds and Southampton could prove to be smart additions to their own ranks ahead of the new season.

3AddedMinutes has identified four players that could benefit both clubs as the summer transfer window gets underway.

West Ham United

James Ward-Prowse - Southampton

It seems increasingly likely David Moyes will have a Declan Rice-shaped hole in his midfield come day one of the new Premier League season as several clubs consider moves for the Hammers stalwart. Should a departure come to pass, the Scot could do a lot worse than making a move for Saints captain James Ward-Prowse. Much like Rice, the hardworking midfielder has been a shining light during some difficult moments for his club and he would surely relish a return to the Premier League with the Hammers.

Harvey Barnes - Leicester City

The Foxes winger has been repeatedly linked with a move away from the King Power Stadium and that speculation will only increase following the confirmation of their relegation into the Championship. Barnes will command a sizable fee but his return of 13 goals and three assists in 40 appearances during a season of struggle for his current employers means he could be worth a punt for Moyes as he looks to bolster his attacking options.

Tino Livramento - Southampton

It was a difficult season for the England Under-21 star after he suffered a cruciate ligament injury that ended his campaign before it had really begun. Of course, questions will be asked of his fitness levels after two substitute appearances against Brighton and Liverpool over the last two weeks provided the sum total of his involvement in the Saints unsuccessful battle against the drop - but his talent and potential can not be questioned and he could provide something of an upgrade on Moyes’ options at right-back.

Rodrigo - Leeds United

One key area where Moyes is reportedly keen to improve during the summer is his current options for a leading figure in his attack. Michail Antonio, Jarrod Bowen and Said Benrahma have all hit double figures this season but Danny Ings and Gianluca Scamacca still have plenty to prove after joining the Hammers during the season. If there was one slight positive in Leeds’ season of struggle, it was the form of forward Rodrigo, who could be an intriguing option for Moyes after scoring 15 goals and providing two assists in 35 appearances in all competitions for the Elland Road outfit.

Everton

Wilfried Gnonto - Leeds United

There could be some suggestions the Italy international was somewhat underused as Leeds fought an unsuccessful battle against the drop and his occasional flashes of excitement certainly hinted at his unquestionable ability. How Gnonto or Leeds supporters view his first and possibly only season remains open to question - but he could provide Sean Dyche will a promising new addition to his attacking options should the Toffees manager opt to make a move.

Luke Thomas - Leicester City

Viewed as the natural successor to Ben Chilwell and suggested as a future England left-back, Thomas still holds plenty of promise despite suffering relegation into the Championshop with the Foxes. Although he was in and out of their side during a poor season, at just 21 he still has plenty of time to regain his confidence and rediscover the form that saw him linked with some big name clubs in recent seasons. From Everton’s point of view, Thomas would offer Dyche a chance to improve in a position that neither Vitaliy Mykolenko or Ruben Vinagre really made their own last season.

Gavin Bazunu - Southampton

Providing serious competition for Jordan Pickford could be one of the main priorities for Sean Dyche this summer. Current backup options Andy Lonergan and Asmir Begovic are out of contract next month and that will leave the England number one as Dyche’s only senior goalkeeper. Bringing in a goalkeeper that has suffered relegation and conceded 56 goals in 32 appearances may seem a questionable move - but Bazunu remains highly-rated and would keep Pickford on his toes if he was to move to Goodison Park.

Jack Harrison - Leeds United

The former Manchester City winger has been linked with a move away from Leeds throughout the last 12 months, with Newcastle United said to be among his admirers. But with Dyche hoping to improve his options in the final third, the Whites winger could be a suitable addition. Despite his side’s struggles, Harrison racked up 12 goal involvements in 36 Premier League appearances and his ability to feature in a number of attacking positions would be a useful option for Dyche.
